This Week in Religious Education

                                          Welcome to the UUF
Children and Youth Religious Education Program

We are happy you are considering enrolling your child in our Religious Education Program. We strive to offer a strong community in which your child can learn, develop meaningful relationships with adults and peers and grow spiritually, socially, mentally, and emotionally. The primary goal of our program is to nurture in each person feelings of self-worth and a religious philosophy that affirms our Unitarian Universalist principles.

Unitarian Universalism is a religion with a core belief in the idea that questions are a good thing. We teach through stories and examples as well as providing explicit and implicit instruction in Unitarian Universalism—which includes other religious traditions of the world.

Our vision is to be a diverse religious community committed to lifelong spiritual growth and compassionate service to each other, our community and the earth.

Our mission is to:

o Honor the inherent worth and dignity of all people of the world in which we live.

o Respect and encourage the many different approaches to spiritual fulfillment.

o Support each other in life’s passages and struggles.

o Work compassionately for peace, liberty and justice.

o Celebrate our connection to the sacredness of life and protect life’s sustaining systems.

We welcome you into our community and look forward to working with you and your family
as we learn and grow together.

Parent Involvement
& Volunteer Opportunities

It takes many volunteers to make the Religious Education Program at UUF a success. Here is a partial list of how you can help the RE Program:

            o Teach RE classes
o Assist our RE teachers in class
o Substitute for absent teachers
o Be a presenter or guest speaker
o Help with our Halloween carnival and   haunted house
o Help with our Winterfest
o Help with our Egg Hunt
o Mentor youth, especially for our Coming of Age Program
o Provide child care for meetings
  o Chaperone field trips
o Serve on the RE Committee

A Safe Community

At UUF, we continue to work to make our RE classes and activities safe for all children. An adult teacher and one assistant are assigned to every classroom, and we have recently begun running background checks on all teaching volunteers and paid employees who work with our children. No identifiable photos of a child will ever be published without parental consent, and even with permission, no child will be named in any published photo.

While children wear name tags in their classrooms, name tags are removed before they leave class. Children often wish to have fun on the playground after RE classes, but we remind parents that once classes are dismissed, they must supervise their children—especially on the playground.

We will continue to look for ways to improve our safety and welcome your feedback. At UUF, we feel the time and money spent to make our fellowship a safe place for all our children is well spent.

        Religious Education Registration

All children and youth taking part in the Religious Education Program at UUF need to have a current, updated registration form on file, completed annually or whenever a child’s living situation changes. Parents can register their children at the registration booth, which is set up for two Sundays before classes begin in August. However, UUF operates on a rolling registration calendar–any time new people wish to attend UUF RE classes, they can register.

Unlike many churches, UUF does not charge a fee for religious education, but we do ask all parents to lend a hand. There are many opportunities to volunteer.  Children benefit when parents become involved!
